🏺 Pottery
Are we handbuilding or wheel throwing?
Pottery workshops focus on hand-building pieces like plates or incense holders.
I see you have different themes for workshops - which should I take?
For pottery workshops there are Open Play & themed ones. In Open Play workshops creativity is all yours - you decide what you are making using materials & techniques we share. In themed workshops we are all making the same thing, but it's not a step by step instruction. Everyone still makes their own unique creation.
Can I make more than one piece?
Time permitting, additional pieces may be made during class. There are extra firing fees for multiple pieces outlined in workshop description.
Can I take home what I make?
Pottery items are fired and ready for pickup in 2-4 weeks. We'll email you when they’re ready.
Do pottery workshop pieces need to be fired?
Without firing pieces are brittle which might work with some decorative art which does not get actively used. We like giving customers an option, as some like to come for the experience.
Firing makes your creations usable, microwave/dishwasher/oven safe.
What happens to my piece/s after pottery workshop?
They are carefully transported to our studio in Venice Beach where they dry & then are individually brush glazed and kiln fired in 2200+ degrees F. After firing, they are packed in bags with your names and dropped off at the original workshop venue.
Can you guarantee that my piece will come out exactly how I planned it?
Due to the nature of ceramics and the high-temperature firing process, exact results can’t be guaranteed. Clay is a natural material and can change during drying and firing—pieces may develop small imperfections, subtle color shifts, warping, or surface variations.
Occasionally, pieces don’t survive the firing process due to air bubbles, construction issues etc. In the rare event a piece does not survive the kiln, the firing fee will be refunded.
These variations are part of what makes each piece truly one of a kind—but they also mean the final result can’t be guaranteed to look exactly as originally planned.
🌸 Resin
Can I customize my resin piece?
Yes—customization is a core part of resin workshops. Depending on the class, you can choose flowers and other decorative elements, handles, glitter, etc. You can even bring pieces you want to be part of the design (just make sure they are dry i.e. no fresh flowers)
Each piece is entirely unique.
What is the process like?
Short video overview here.
During the workshop, you’ll design the first resin layer, arranging florals, pigments, and elements while the resin is in its most fluid and creative stage. This layer sets the foundation of your piece.
Final sealing layer is completed at home. You’ll leave the workshop with:
- Your partially cured resin piece
- Everything necessary to seal your piece at home
- Clear written instructions for finishing and curing at home
Some movement of florals or elements can occur during transport, as resin can move for up to 4 hours. This natural shift is part of working with resin and adds to the organic, one-of-a-kind nature of each piece.
Once home, you’ll pour the final sealing layer, which locks everything into place and gives your piece a smooth, finished surface. Full curing typically takes 36–48 hours, after which your piece will be solid and ready to enjoy.
Can resin pieces have bubbles or imperfections?
Small bubbles or natural variations may occur and are normal with resin art. Techniques are used during class to minimize bubbles, but minor imperfections are considered part of the handmade process.
How durable are resin pieces?
Resin pieces are durable but should be handled with care. Avoid:
- Prolonged direct sunlight
- High heat
- Abrasive cleaners
How long does resin take to cure?
Most resin pieces require 24–72 hours to fully cure depending on thickness and environmental conditions. During this time, pieces should remain undisturbed.
You’ll receive clear take-home instructions on care and handling.
Is resin suitable for kids?
Resin workshops are designed for adults or older teens - minimum recommended age is 14.
What if my resin piece doesn’t turn out as expected?
Resin is an experimental, creative medium. While guidance is provided throughout the workshop, outcomes vary based on design choices and material behavior. This variability is part of the experience.
✨ Modern Kintsugi
What is Kintsugi?
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics highlighting, rather than hiding, imperfections.
Is this traditional Kintsugi?
Our workshops use a modern faster drying Kintsugi method designed for learning in a workshop setting.
Can I bring my own broken piece?
Yes, but check with us first. Some pieces may be too large or difficult to break/repair in a workshop setting.
Is my repaired piece food-safe?
Kintsugi-repaired pieces are decorative and not recommended for food or liquid use.
Will my piece be finished the same day?
Yes - you will take your finished piece home. Additional at-home curing time of 24 hours is recommended before use.
